Data Acquisition Systems: read what your engine is actually doing
Data acquisition systems turn what your engine is doing into numbers you can trust. Instead of guessing at air/fuel or exhaust temperatures, you tap a sensor, run it to a logger or display, and get a live reading you can watch or record. Wideband O2 controllers let you set fuel maps without chasing your tail. Thermocouple amplifiers pull cylinder or manifold temps so you catch a lean cylinder before it costs you a piston. Handheld programmers and CAN loggers pull the data the ECU already has and put it in front of you. If you tune, tow, or track a vehicle, this is how you stop working blind.
What ThreePiece stocks
There are 17 products in this category from three brands: Banks Power (12), Innovate Motorsports (4) and Haltech (1). Prices currently run from $49 to $1,260 for what is in stock right now, so this is not a promise of a set price. At the top end sit shop-grade wideband kits like the Innovate LM-2 Dual O2 Ultimate Shop Kit and the Innovate LM-2 Single O2 Ultimate Shop Kit. For temperature logging there is the Haltech TCA8 Eight Channel Thermocouple Amplifier. Banks Power covers loggers and programmers, including the Banks iDash Data Pro Universal CAN system and the Banks AutoMind hand-held programmer.
Fitment data is listed for 3 of these products, covering model years 1998 to 2015. The vehicles named include Ford Diesel and Gas, Chevrolet and GMC 6.6L Diesel and Gas, Dodge Diesel and Gas, and Jeep. The rest are universal or CAN-based tools that read standard data regardless of platform.
How to choose
Match the tool to the job. If you are dialing in fueling, a wideband O2 kit gives you the air/fuel number a programmer alone won't. The dual-sensor Innovate kit reads two banks at once; the single kit covers one and costs less. For heat, the Haltech TCA8 gives you eight thermocouple channels when one temp reading isn't enough. The Banks iDash is the universal-CAN choice if you want a stand-alone display pulling data your 2008-and-newer ECU already broadcasts, while the AutoMind hand-held leans toward diesel and gas trucks with defined fitment. Buy for the data you actually need to see, not the biggest channel count on the shelf.
What else you need with it
Sensors and displays draw power and need clean signal, so check our Electrical Accessories for wiring and connectors. Building out a full cabin? Browse Audio Systems, Racing Seats, Seat Brackets and Shift Knobs in the same section. See everything under Interior.
