Headers
Headers: the first hard part of your exhaust, done right
Headers replace the restrictive cast exhaust manifolds bolted to your cylinder head. Instead of dumping all cylinders into one lump, individual tubes (primaries) route each exhaust pulse into a collector, so spent gas leaves the head with less back pressure and less interference between cylinders. That scavenging is the real mechanical job - get the exhaust out cleaner and the engine breathes better, which is why headers are usually the foundation of a serious exhaust build. Fit a set when you're chasing airflow gains or building the front half of a system that ends in a cat-back exhaust.
What ThreePiece stocks
We currently list 233 headers from 9 brands, with prices from $64 to $4,362 - the live range for what's in stock, not a fixed quote. The deepest catalogs come from Stainless Works (56), Kooks Headers (51), BBK (45) and JBA (45), with aFe, Gibson, Vance and Hines, Perrin Performance and CORSA Performance filling out the rest.
Fitment data covers 209 of those parts across model years 1965 through 2025. Top makes are Ford, Chevrolet, Dodge, Cadillac, GMC, Jeep and Ram, and the most common vehicles include the Ford Mustang, Chevrolet Corvette, Chevrolet Camaro, Ford F-150, Cadillac Escalade, Dodge Ram 1500, Dodge Challenger and Dodge Charger.
How to choose
The main split is coverage and construction. Full long-tube header-and-pipe kits like the Kooks Silverado 1500 6.2L header and catted Y-pipe kit and the Kooks Challenger/Charger Hellcat headers with catted connection pipe include the catted mid-pipe, which is why they sit at the top of the price range.
Header-only sets that lead into an X-pipe, like the Stainless Works CTS-V Sedan headers and the Stainless Works Corvette C7 headers, let you keep or swap your mid-section separately. Primary diameter matters too - the CTS-V and Silverado use larger 2in and 1-7/8in primaries, while a truck header like the Gibson Ram 1500 SRT-10 stainless header runs 1-1/2in. Coating is another factor: the aFe Twisted 304SS header for the C8 Corvette carries a titanium ceramic coating. Match primary size and collector layout to your engine and the mid-pipe you plan to run.
What else you need
Headers are the front of the system, so plan the rest. If your kit doesn't include a mid-pipe, look at exhaust pipes, catalytic converters and exhaust flanges to complete the connection back to your mufflers. Browse the full Exhaust section to see how the pieces line up.
