Baffles
Baffles: tune the sound and backpressure inside your pipe
A baffle is the insert that lives inside your exhaust pipe or muffler and controls how the gas flows out. Fit one and you change two things at once: the volume at the tailpipe and the backpressure the engine sees. A quieter, more restrictive baffle tames a loud pipe and can smooth low-end response; a freer-flowing comp baffle opens things up. On many custom motorcycle pipes the baffle is a removable, serviceable part, so it is a cheap way to dial in a system you already own rather than buying a whole new exhaust.
These are inserts and silencers, not full systems. If you are still choosing a whole setup, start in the Exhaust section.
What ThreePiece stocks in baffles
There are 13 baffles in stock right now, across 3 brands: Vance and Hines (11 of the 13), plus one each from HKS and Bikers Choice. Prices currently run from $35 to $206 — that is the live range for what is on the shelf today, not a fixed price.
The range spans quiet baffles and comp baffles. On the higher end, the Vance & Hines Pro Pipe Quiet Baffle - 21906 and the Vance & Hines Pro Pipe Black/Chrome Comp Baffle - 26529 are matched to specific Pro Pipe systems. The HKS Black Silencer for 115mm Tip Exhausts - 3306-RA076 is a slip-in silencer sized to a 115mm tip, and the Bikers Choice Baffle for 2 Inch O.D. Pipes is a universal insert for 2-inch pipes at the bottom of the price spread.
How to choose
Pick by fit first. A Pro Pipe baffle is designed for a Pro Pipe system — match the part to the exhaust you have. A silencer like the HKS unit is sized to a specific tip diameter (115mm), so measure before you buy. A universal insert like the Bikers Choice piece is defined by pipe outer diameter (2 inch), which makes it the flexible option for custom pipes but means you verify your own pipe size.
Then choose by intent: a quiet baffle for lower volume and more restriction, a comp baffle for a freer flow. Fitment data is thin in this category — only 2 of the 13 list vehicle fitment — and the sample covers Harley-Davidson models including the Street Rod, Fat Bob and Sportster across roughly 1986–2017. Treat that as a small sample, not the full compatibility list, and confirm before ordering.
What else you may need
Baffles work with the rest of the exhaust. If a new insert is not enough, look at Mufflers, Exhaust Pipes and Exhaust Tips. For full replacements, browse Cat-Back Exhaust or Axle-Back Exhaust Systems, and grab hardware from Exhaust Flanges.
