Which model suits your car, crossover or truck

Daily-driven cars and crossovers

The Roadtour Connect AS is the default commuter tire. It has a 600 treadwear grade and H or V speed ratings, and it covers 14 to 19 inches. Stocked sizes run from a 185/65R14 for 14-inch wheels up to a 235/60R17 that fits a lot of crossovers. On 20s, go with the PCV. It reaches 20 inches and grades 620.

If you want a sportier feel, the Raptis R-T6 comes in ZR sizes with W and Y speed ratings. The cost is tread life: it grades 500. The R-T6X is the crossover version, mostly in XL sizes like 235/50R19 and 265/45R20 for crossovers and SUVs on big wheels. Look at the 255/50R19XL R-T6X as an example. The H/P 4000 is the older touring line in 14 and 15 inches, with the lowest grade here at 440.

Crossovers and SUVs

The Cross-V AW carries the highest treadwear grade in the lineup at 700. It's an all-weather tire, meant for drivers who see mixed conditions year-round. The HPT is a plain highway tire with a 500 grade, from 15 to 20 inches. It's a good fit for an SUV that lives on pavement.

Half-ton trucks and all-terrain

The AT X-Journey is the street-friendly all-terrain. It comes in standard and XL load from 15 to 22 inches and grades 600. The AT X-Venture is the tougher one, with LT load range E sizes plus flotation sizes like 31x10.50R15 and 35x12.50R20. Pick the X-Journey if you mostly drive on the road and the X-Venture if you tow, haul or spend real time on trails. You can also compare every all-terrain we carry.

Lifted trucks and off-road

The off-road tires are co-branded with TIS. The RT1 is a rugged-terrain tire in LT and P-metric sizes from 16 to 22 inches. The TT1 has the most aggressive tread, in LT E and F, with sizes up to 37x12.50R20 on wheels as big as 26 inches. For a lifted build, a matched wheel and tire package takes the guesswork out of offset and clearance.

Work trucks and vans

The T/G MAX is an LT load range E tire from 15 to 20 inches. The CH4 is a highway tire for work trucks and vans, in LT and C sizes from 15 to 18 inches. The H-901 LT is a 16-inch highway LT. All three are built for load, not looks.

Winter

There are three Avalanche models. The RT is for cars and small crossovers, in sizes like 205/65R16 and 215/65R16. The TT is for trucks, and the XUV is for crossovers and SUVs on 18 to 20 inch wheels, such as the 245/60R18 Avalanche XUV. These are dedicated snow tires. The Cross-V AW is all-weather, not a winter tire. See all winter tires in stock if you're cross-shopping.

The brand also has commercial truck, trailer, farm and skid steer tires, plus the TIS UT1 for UTVs.

Who makes Hercules tires?

Hercules is a tire brand owned by American Tire Distributors (ATD). ATD bought Hercules Tire & Rubber Company in 2014, and the name dates back to 1952. Ironman tires come from the same ATD family.

Are Hercules tires good?

They're a value brand with a lineup that covers almost every job: commuter cars, crossovers, half-tons, lifted trucks, work vans and winter. The treadwear grades tell you a lot. A higher number means slower expected wear. Here's how they rank:

  • 700: Terra Trac Cross-V AW
  • 620: Roadtour Connect PCV
  • 600: Roadtour Connect AS, Raptis R-T6X, Terra Trac AT X-Journey
  • 500: Raptis R-T6, Terra Trac HPT
  • 440: H/P 4000

If tread life is your priority, start at the top of that list. If you want sharper steering, the 500-grade R-T6 is the honest trade.

How to pick the right size and load range

  • Match the size. Read it off your current sidewall or door placard, and buy that exact size unless you're changing wheels.
  • Match or beat the load index. Trucks that tow or haul need an LT load range E (or F on the TT1), not a P-metric tire.
  • Check the speed rating. Don't go below what your placard lists.
  • Plus-sizing? Run the numbers through our tire size calculator to keep overall diameter close to stock.
  • Not sure? Put your exact car or truck into the fitment search instead of guessing.

Got your size? Pick a model above and filter to it, or run your vehicle through the fitment search first.

Questions

Are Hercules tires good in snow?

The Avalanche models are the snow tires: the RT for cars and small crossovers, the TT for trucks and the XUV for crossovers and SUVs. The Terra Trac Cross-V AW is an all-weather tire, not a dedicated winter tire.

Which Hercules tire fits a lifted truck?

Look at the Terra Trac AT X-Venture in flotation sizes up to 35x12.50R20, or the TIS Offroad TT1, which goes up to 37x12.50R20. Clearance depends on your lift and wheel offset, so check your truck in the fitment search first.

Why don't LT tires show a treadwear grade?

LT sizes don't carry a treadwear grade. Compare them by load range and tread type instead.

What does XL mean on a tire size?

XL means extra load: the tire can carry more weight than a standard-load tire of the same size when inflated correctly. Many Raptis R-T6X sizes are XL because they go on heavier crossovers and SUVs.

Which Hercules tire has the highest treadwear grade?

The Terra Trac Cross-V AW, at 700. The Roadtour Connect PCV is next at 620.

Are Hercules and Ironman the same company?

They're separate brands under the same owner, American Tire Distributors. Each has its own lineup and sizes.
