Supercharger Pulleys: smaller pulley, more boost, same blower

A supercharger pulley sets how fast your blower spins relative to the crank. Swap to a smaller-diameter upper pulley and the belt drives the supercharger faster, which raises boost across the rev range without touching the blower itself. That is the whole reason people fit supercharger pulleys: it is one of the cheapest, most direct ways to lean on an already-supercharged engine. Fit is straightforward on most applications, but a smaller pulley moves more air, so it has to be backed by fueling and tuning that can keep up.

On the GM side, ATI offers a 9.00in 10% overdrive pulley for 2014+ LT1/LT4 dry sump and a 9.77in 25% overdrive for the 09-15 CTS-V LSA. For Mini Cooper S, Alta stocks a 15% pulley and a 17% pulley.

How to choose

The core trade-off is how aggressive you go. A smaller diameter or higher overdrive percentage spins the blower harder for more boost, but demands more from your fuel system and tune, and adds heat and belt load. The aFe pairing shows this cleanly: the 3.10in is the milder step, the 2.85in pushes harder. Alta's 15% versus 17% Mini pulleys make the same call at a smaller scale.
