A radiator is the heat exchanger that pulls coolant temperature back down before it cycles through the engine again. Hot coolant leaves the block, runs through the core, sheds heat to the air passing across the fins, and returns cooler. When you add power, tow, sit in traffic, or run track sessions, the factory core often can't reject enough heat, and coolant temps climb. That's when people fit an upgraded radiator with a thicker or more efficient core to hold temperatures where they belong. How to choose
Pick by what the car actually does. For a daily or lightly modded street car, a direct-fit aluminum radiator sized to the factory opening is the simplest swap. For higher heat loads, a thicker core, a dual-pass design, or a bar-and-plate core moves more heat but can cost more and sometimes needs different plumbing.
