Intercoolers
Intercoolers: cooler charge air for a turbo or diesel that actually holds power
An intercooler sits between your turbo (or supercharger) and the intake, and its one job is to pull heat out of the compressed charge air before it reaches the engine. Compressing air heats it up; hot air is less dense and more prone to knock. A larger, better-flowing intercooler drops intake temps so the engine sees denser, more stable air, which is why people fit them on both tuned gas cars and worked diesel trucks. These are the intercoolers we currently stock, and the payload's numbers are laid out plainly below.
What ThreePiece actually stocks
Right now this category shows 4 products from 2 brands: AWE Tuning (3 of the sample) and aFe (1). Current in-stock pricing runs from $986.25 to $1,805.67 - a live range for what's on the shelf, not a fixed quote. Fitment data on these parts covers Audi and Dodge, with named vehicles including the Audi S4, Audi S5 and Audi SQ5, across model years from 1994 to 2019.
Concrete examples: the AWE Tuning 18-19 Audi SQ5 B9 3.0T ColdFront Intercooler is the lowest-priced option here, the AWE Tuning Audi 2.7T Performance Intercooler Kit with carbon fiber shrouds sits in the middle, and the aFe BladeRunner Street Series Intercooler with tubes for 94-02 Dodge 5.9L diesel is the top of the range and comes with charge tubes.
How to choose
The split here is straightforward. If you're on a boosted Audi gas platform, the two AWE Tuning options are built around specific chassis - the SQ5 crossover unit and the 2.7T kit are not interchangeable, so match the exact model and year. If you're running a Dodge 5.9L diesel, the aFe BladeRunner is a truck-focused piece and ships with tubes, which means fewer separate connections to source. A kit that includes tubes costs more up front but saves you chasing fittings and clamps piece by piece. A bare core is cheaper but assumes your existing plumbing lines up.
What else you need with it
Charge-air cooling doesn't work in isolation. If your coolant system is marginal, look at radiators alongside the intercooler swap. Getting the pipework sealed usually means fittings and adapters to marry the new core to your intake tract. Builds that add real boost often go further into pistons, head gaskets and fuel pumps to keep pace. Browse the full Engine Components section for the rest.
Fitment help and ordering
Because these parts are chassis- and engine-specific, confirm the exact model and year before you buy. If you're unsure, call our fitment line at 813-535-5801 or reach us through contact us. Every order ships with free shipping, and Affirm and Katapult financing is available at financing to spread the cost of a larger intercooler build.
