Harmonic Dampers
Harmonic Dampers: crank protection for street, strip and tow rigs
A harmonic damper mounts on the front of the crankshaft and controls the torsional vibration that builds every time the engine fires. Left unchecked, that vibration cracks cranks, wears bearings and shakes accessory drives loose. A quality damper absorbs those pulses so the crank sees less stress, the belt runs true, and timing stays steady. If you have added power, spin the engine harder than stock, or work a diesel under load, this is the part that keeps the bottom end alive. Harmonic dampers are cheap insurance against expensive machine work.
What we stock
This category holds 84 harmonic dampers from two brands: ATI with 59 units and Fluidampr with 25. Current pricing runs from $78 to $800, which is the live range on what is in stock right now, not a fixed quote. That spread covers everything from budget replacements to full aftermarket performance dampers for high-output builds.
Coverage spans model years 1982 through 2025, with 43 of the listings carrying specific fitment data. Vehicles named in that data include the Chevrolet Camaro and Corvette platforms, the Mazda Miata, Toyota Supra and GR86, Subaru BRZ, Acura NSX, BMW Z4, Nissan 300ZX, Dodge Hellcat, Pontiac Firebird, Cadillac CTS-V and Ford F-Series trucks. Both gas and diesel applications are covered.
How to choose
The first split is gas versus diesel. Diesel rigs put huge torque through the crank, and the range reflects that with dedicated units like the Fluidampr 6.4L Powerstroke damper and the early 7.3L Powerstroke steel externally balanced unit. For diesels there is also the ATI 7.425in steel Duramax damper for 06-10 LBZ and LMM.
The second split is material and construction. Fluidampr units use a sealed fluid design, while ATI builds rebuildable dampers, including the aluminum 8.53in LS9 damper with a 14 percent underdrive for Corvette ZR1 builds. Underdrive dampers slow the accessory drive to free up power, which matters on a race build but less so on a stock tow rig. Match the groove count, diameter and balance type to your exact engine before ordering. External-balance engines need an external-balance damper, and that is not interchangeable.
What else you need
Plan on a fresh crank seal and a front cover gasket while you are in there. Browse head gaskets and full gasket kits for the rest of the front of the engine, and check bearings if you are already tearing down the bottom end. If accessories are coming off, look at fuel pumps and radiators too. Everything sits under the broader engine components section.
Fitment and ordering
Damper fitment is exact, so confirm your engine, year and balance before you buy. Call our team at 813-535-5801 or reach out through contact us if you are unsure which unit fits. All orders ship free, and Affirm and Katapult financing is available on the higher-priced performance and diesel dampers.
