Fuel Filter Elements
Fuel Filter Elements: the wear part inside your filter housing
A fuel filter element is the media cartridge that lives inside a reusable filter housing. It catches debris and contaminants before fuel reaches your pump, rail and injectors. The housing is permanent hardware; the fuel filter elements are the service item you pull, inspect and swap when they load up. Fit a fresh element and you protect the expensive parts downstream, keep flow consistent, and avoid the lean conditions and injector wear that come from letting a clogged cartridge run too long. On a high-flow aftermarket system, matching the element's micron rating to its job in the plumbing is the whole point of the exercise.
What ThreePiece stocks
There are 15 fuel filter elements in stock here, priced from $45 to $94 at current levels - not a locked-in promise, just what the range looks like today. The four brands carried are Fuelab (7 in the sample), Aeromotive (6), plus one element each from Injector Dynamics and DeatschWerks. Because these are replacement cartridges, most are keyed to a specific housing rather than a vehicle. Aeromotive offers separate elements for different filter part numbers, for example the 10 micron microglass for 12339/12341 and the 10 micron microglass for 12340/12350. The DeatschWerks stainless 10 micron is a universal element sized to a 160mm housing.
How to choose
Two things decide it: micron rating and media type. Micron is the size of particle the element will trap - a lower number filters finer, a higher number flows more freely and is usually placed before the pump. The Fuelab 6 micron micro-fiberglass is a fine post-pump element, while the Fuelab 100 micron stainless is a coarse pre-pump strainer. Media matters too: microglass and micro-fiberglass elements are typically discarded and replaced; stainless mesh can often be cleaned and reused, which suits owners who service frequently. The most important rule is fitment - buy the element that matches the housing you already run. An Aeromotive element will not seat in a Fuelab body, and vice versa. Check your housing part number first, then match the cartridge.
What else you need with it
Elements ship with O-rings on most Fuelab parts, but always confirm you have fresh seals before reassembly. If you are building or plumbing a fuel system, pair the element work with a look at Fuel Pumps, and the plumbing sits in Fittings and Adapters. While you have the engine open, Oil Filters and Gasket Kits are worth checking off the list. All of these live under the Engine Components section.
