Wire Locks for Piston Pins

Wire locks are small retaining clips that hold the wrist pin in place inside the piston. They seat in a groove at each end of the pin bore and keep the pin from sliding out and scoring the cylinder wall. Engine builders fit new locks whenever pistons go in, because a lost or fatigued lock can cause serious damage.

We currently have 2 wire locks in stock, both from CP Pistons. They are the CP Wire Lock and the CP Wire Lock .905in Bore x .073in Thick, which is listed to fit a 23mm pin.

  • Match the lock to the pin bore and groove of your pistons.
  • Check the wire thickness against the groove spec from your piston maker.
  • Confirm the wrist pin diameter before ordering.
  • Use fresh locks on every rebuild rather than reusing old ones.
