Oil Pan
Oil Pan: the reservoir that keeps your bearings fed when the engine gets sideways
The oil pan bolts to the bottom of the block and holds the sump of oil the pump draws from. On a stock car cruising to work, the factory pan is fine. Push the engine hard - track sessions, autocross, sustained cornering - and oil slosh away from the pickup causes momentary oil starvation, which is what wipes bearings. A baffled or extra-capacity aftermarket pan keeps the pickup submerged under lateral and braking loads, and a swap-specific pan clears the crossmember and steering when you drop a different engine into a chassis it was never designed for. That is the real mechanical job here.
What ThreePiece stocks in oil pans
There are 46 oil pans in this category from 9 brands, priced from $143 to $1,503 - that is the current range for what is in stock, not a fixed price. Moroso makes up the bulk with 24 listings, followed by GReddy (5), aFe (4), Ford Racing (3) and Banks Power (3), with ISR Performance, Skunk2 Racing, Torque Solution and HKS rounding out the range.
Of these, 21 carry fitment data spanning model years 1989 to 2025. Top makes covered include Nissan, Ford, Mazda, Toyota, Chevrolet, Volkswagen, Mitsubishi and Dodge - specific vehicles named in the data include the Ford Mustang, Mazda RX-8, Nissan 240SX and 350Z, Toyota 86, Mitsubishi Evo, Chevrolet Silverado, Dodge RAM 1500 and Lotus Elise.
How to choose an oil pan
The split is between purpose-built race and swap pans and heavier-duty replacements. For a road-race build the Moroso 2GR-FE road race baffled wet sump pan and the Moroso Evo 10 extra-capacity aluminum pan add baffling and capacity in cast aluminum. For a boosted Subaru the Torque Solution V2 HD race pan for EJ engines is the targeted option.
Doing an engine swap? The ISR Performance LS-swap oil pan kit for the 350Z is built to clear a swap layout. And on the OE-plus end, the Ford Racing GT350 Coyote pan and pump kit and the range-topping GT500 pan and pump kit bundle the pump so the whole oiling system is matched. Buy the pan built for your exact application - extra capacity means nothing if the pickup and baffling do not suit your engine and chassis.
What else you need with it
Plan the reseal at the same time. Grab a fresh gasket from Gasket Kits, and while the oil is drained do the Oil Filters. If you are chasing an oil-supply problem, look at Fuel Pumps and Fittings for the plumbing. See everything in the Engine Components section for the rest of the build.
