Ignition Components
Ignition Components: the spark side of your engine, upgraded or restored
Ignition components are the parts that time and fire the spark that lights the fuel charge. That covers the ignition module or system, the coil, the wires, and on older points-style setups the advance unit and point plate. Fit new ignition components when a bike runs rough, is hard to start, or when you want to convert a worn breaker-point system to a cleaner electronic trigger. On a rebuild, replacing this hardware while the engine is apart saves you chasing a weak spark later.
What ThreePiece stocks
There are 19 ignition components in stock right now, from 7 brands. The bulk of the range is Dynatek with 9 items, followed by TwinPower with 4 and S&S Cycle with 2, plus single listings from Bikers Choice, QuadBoss, Bosch and Granatelli Motor Sports. Prices currently run from $22 to $618 for what is on the shelf; that is the live range for in-stock parts, not a fixed quote.
Coverage leans heavily toward classic and cruiser motorcycles. Fitment data on 15 of the products names makes like Harley-Davidson, Honda, Kawasaki and Suzuki, across model years from 1969 to 2003, on machines such as the Harley XL, FL and FX, the Honda CB750 and GL1000, the Kawasaki KZ550 and Z1, and the Suzuki GS550 and GS750.
How to choose
Match the part to what your engine already has. For a full electronic conversion on carbureted Harley Big Twins, the Dynatek Dyna S dual-fire ignition and coil system covers 1970 to 2003 models as a combined kit. Vintage Honda Goldwing owners can look at the Dyna S system for the 1975-1979 GL1000. If you want a single-fire setup for a Big Twin, the S&S Cycle HI-4N single-fire kit sits at the top of the range, with the standalone HI-4N ignition as a lower-cost option.
Sticking with points? The TwinPower advance unit and point plate assembly is a straight service replacement for FL, FX and XL models. And for a modern V-8 rather than a bike, the Granatelli GM LT1 6.2L ignition wire connector kit covers 2014-2021 applications. The trade-off is simple: full systems cost more but replace weak points hardware entirely, while service parts get an original setup running again for less.
What else you need
A fresh ignition wants good supporting parts. Check your batteries so the system has clean voltage to fire, and if you are already inside the engine, look at gasket kits, head gaskets and pistons. Browse the full Engine Components section for related hardware.
