Ignition Coil Drivers

An ignition coil driver, sometimes called an igniter, sits between your engine management system and the ignition coils. The ECU sends a low-power trigger signal, and the driver switches the coil's primary circuit to fire the spark. People fit one when running coils that do not have a built-in igniter, when moving to a standalone ECU, or when reworking the ignition system on a modified engine.

We currently have 2 ignition coil drivers in stock, both from AEM. They are the AEM 4 Channel Coil Driver and the AEM 1 Channel Coil Driver Accessory.

A few things to check before you choose:

  • Count how many coils you need to drive and match that to the number of channels.
  • Confirm your coils need an external driver and do not already have one built in.
  • Make sure your ECU can output the trigger signal the driver expects.
  • Plan mounting and wiring so the driver stays away from excess heat and moving parts.
