Crank Pulleys
Crank Pulleys: shave rotating mass off the front of the crank
The crank pulley bolts to the nose of the crankshaft and drives your accessory belt - alternator, water pump, power steering and A/C, depending on the car. Swapping to a lightweight crank pulley removes rotating mass at the crank, so the engine spins up and slows down with less inertia holding it back. That is the whole reason people fit one: quicker throttle response and a freer-revving feel, especially on smaller-displacement builds. It is a bolt-off, bolt-on job for anyone who has done accessory belt work, though you will want the right tools to hold the crank while you torque the bolt.
What ThreePiece stocks
We currently show 9 crank pulleys in stock across 2 brands: Perrin Performance (7 of the sample) and Alta (2). Prices run from $88 to $209 right now - that is the live range for what is on the shelf, not a fixed quote. On the Subaru side, the Perrin lightweight crank pulley for 22-25 WRX/BRZ and Toyota GR86 and the Perrin pulley for 19-21 WRX, 16-18 Forester and 15-19 Legacy both sit at the top of the range. For Mini, the Alta Mini Cooper lightened crank pulley and the Alta Mini Cooper S 2% oversize pulley come in mid-range.
How to choose
The split here is straightforward. Perrin covers Subaru and Toyota platforms; Alta covers Mini. Within the Alta options you also have a choice between a standard lightened pulley and a 2% oversize version for the Cooper S, which changes accessory drive speed slightly - pick based on which belt behavior you want. The lower end of the range gets you a lightened pulley; the Perrin blue pieces at $209 are the newer-platform fitments. Match the part to your exact year and model first, then let price fall where it lands.
Fitment coverage
Of the sampled pulleys, 4 carry fitment data. Named makes include Subaru, Mini and Honda, with vehicles like the Subaru Impreza, Subaru STI, Mini Cooper S and Honda Civic, spanning model years roughly 1993 to 2023. Product names call out Subaru and Toyota. Confirm your specific application before ordering.
What else you need with it
A pulley swap is a good moment to look at the rest of the front of the engine. Browse Bearings and Gasket Kits if you are already in there, and check Oil Filters for a service refresh. Deeper builds pull in Pistons and Head Gaskets. For plumbing and mounting hardware, see Fittings, and the full Engine Components section covers the rest.
