A CAN module connects to a vehicle's Controller Area Network. This data network lets engine management, digital dashes, data loggers and sensors share information. An expander module adds inputs to a CAN-based setup. It lets you bring in more sensor signals and send them over the network instead of running a separate wire back to the ECU for each one. Builders fit them when a project outgrows the inputs on their ECU or dash, or when they want cleaner wiring on a race or street build.
We currently have 1 CAN module in stock, from AEM: the AEM 22 Channel CAN Expander Module. It suits builds that need more room for sensor inputs on a CAN-based system.
Confirm that your ECU, dash or logger can read data from a CAN expander, and check how it needs to be configured.
Count the sensors you plan to add, and leave spare capacity for future upgrades.
Check which sensor and signal types the module accepts.
Plan a mounting spot and wiring route away from heat and vibration.
