Bearing Tools
Bearing Tools: the right kit to pull, drive and check bearings without wrecking them
Good bearing tools do two jobs that hand improvisation always gets wrong: they pull a bearing straight out of its bore without cocking it, and they drive the new one back in square by pushing on the correct race. Hammer on the wrong ring and you brinell the bearing before the machine ever runs. This category covers the pullers, the graduated driver sets, the clearance-check strips and the greasers you reach for during a bearing job in the Engine Components section.
What ThreePiece stocks
There are 7 products here from 3 brands - Clevite, Bike Master and EPI - with current in-stock prices running from $59 to $108. That is the range for what is on the shelf right now, not a standing offer.
- The BikeMaster Bearing Removal Kit - 151645 is the pulling side of the job, and it's the top of the range at $108.29.
- The BikeMaster 16pc Bearing Race/Seal Driver Set - 152484 gives you graduated drivers so you can seat bearings and seals on the correct diameter.
- For measuring installed clearance, Clevite Plastigage comes in two grades: Blue - MPB1 and Green - MPG1, both 12-packs.
- The EPI Polaris EZ Bearing Greaser 44mm - 44MMGREASER is the value end at $58.99.
How to choose
Sort by the task, not the price. If you're removing a stuck bearing, the removal kit does what a slide hammer and a punch never will - it grabs the inner race and pulls square. If you're fitting new, the driver set is what keeps the load off the balls or rollers. The two are different jobs and most builds want both. Plastigage is a separate decision entirely: it isn't a driver, it's a consumable strip that reads bearing-to-journal clearance during assembly, and the Blue and Green grades cover different clearance bands - pick the one that matches your spec. The 44mm greaser is model-specific rather than general-purpose, so buy it for that application, not as a catch-all.
Fitment
Most items here are generic shop tools, so vehicle fitment isn't the deciding factor. One product carries fitment data: coverage lists Polaris (the Polaris EZ), spanning roughly 2011-2024. If your job is a Polaris EZ, that greaser is sized for it; otherwise choose the tool by bearing size and task.
What else you need
Tools without parts don't finish a job. Pair these with the actual Bearings going in, and while the engine's open, check the Gasket Kits and Head Gaskets you'll disturb. Related build categories worth a look are Pistons, Oil Filters and Fittings.
