Shift Components
Shift Components: tighten up a loose, vague gearshift
Good shift components are what turn a sloppy, long-throw gearchange into a short, positive one you can hit without looking. On a manual car, a short throw shifter changes the pivot geometry so the lever moves less between gears; worn shift cable bushings and base bushings take out the slack that makes gates feel mushy. On a bike, shift levers and heel-toe shifters change how your foot works the transmission. The mechanical job is simple: less deflection, less play, cleaner engagement. If you've ever missed a 2-3 shift under load, this is the category that fixes it.
What ThreePiece stocks
This page lists 82 products across 11 brands, currently priced from $24 to $349 - that's the live in-stock range, not a standing offer. The biggest presence is ProTaper with 44 items, followed by Torque Solution (15), then smaller runs from Kartboy, COBB, Fidanza, Kuryakyn, Whiteline, BLOX Racing, ISR Performance, Weapon R and Bikers Choice. Fitment data covers 39 of the products and spans model years 1974 to 2024, so the mix runs from car short shifters to dirt-bike and touring shift levers.
Coverage in the fitment data includes Subaru (Impreza, Legacy, WRX, STI, Forester), Honda, Nissan 240SX, Chevrolet Corvette, Cadillac CTS-V, Mitsubishi, Yamaha, Kawasaki, Suzuki, KTM, Husqvarna and Harley-Davidson Touring. Concrete examples: the COBB double adjustable shifter for the 04-11 WRX/STI, its Legacy GT Spec B counterpart, the Fidanza CTS-V short throw shifter, the Fidanza Stealth/3000GT unit, the Torque Solution Evo X shifter/bushing combo, and on the bike side the Kuryakyn heel-toe shifter for the GL1800.
How to choose
Decide how much you want to spend on feel. A plain short throw shifter shortens the movement and is the simplest upgrade. A double adjustable shifter, like the COBB units above, lets you tune both throw length and lever height for your seating position. A combo such as the Torque Solution Evo X kit pairs the shifter with base and cable bushings, so you fix the play the shifter alone won't. If you just want to sharpen an otherwise good box on a budget, fresh bushings near the $24 end do a lot. For bikes, choose a heel-toe or standard lever by riding style and how your boot sits on the peg.
What else you need with it
Shift work often happens with the transmission already apart, so it's the right time to look at related clutch components, a lighter flywheel, or a clutch rebuild kit. Chain-drive bikes may need sprockets or chain components, and drivetrain jobs often reach to axles and differential components. Browse the full drivetrain section to see everything in one place.
