Clutch lines carry hydraulic pressure from the master cylinder down to the slave cylinder or throwout bearing every time you push the pedal. A soft rubber factory hose swells slightly under that pressure, which bleeds off pedal travel and blurs the engagement point. A braided steel line resists that expansion, so more of your foot input actually moves the slave, giving a firmer, more repeatable pedal and a cleaner bite - useful on any car being driven hard or one where the original rubber line is aging and getting mushy.
