Brake Tees

Brake Tees: the small fitting that splits your brake line the right way

A brake tee is the junction fitting that takes one brake line feed and splits it to two, most often to send pressure from a single rear master cylinder out to both sides of a rear brake, or to branch a line where the routing calls for it. Brake tees do a simple mechanical job, but they do it under full hydraulic pressure, so thread type, port size and sealing all have to be correct. Get the fitting right and the line seats clean with no weep; get it wrong and you chase a soft pedal and a mess of fluid.

Some parts sold alongside tees in this category do a related but different job. A residual pressure valve holds a small standing pressure in the line so drum shoes stay close to the drum, or so a caliper below the master cylinder does not siphon back.

What ThreePiece stocks

This category currently shows 6 products from 2 brands - Bikers Choice and Wilwood. Prices run from $39 to $51, which is the current range for what is in stock, not a standing offer. On the Bikers Choice side you will find chrome tee fittings such as the Chrome Brake Tee with 1/8 NPT center hole and male AN-3 side holes and the chrome rear brake tee that replaces H-D 42318-72. From Wilwood there are residual pressure valves with fittings, offered as a 2# blue low-pressure version and a 10# red version.

How to choose

Start with what the fitting has to thread into. The Bikers Choice tees are defined by their port sizes - center and side thread types must match your lines, so read those specs against your existing hardware before ordering. The Wilwood pieces are a different decision: the 2# valve is the light-pressure option and the 10# is the heavier one, and which you want depends on whether you are holding pressure for drums or preventing drainback to a low-mounted caliper. If you are unsure which valve rating your system needs, that is a question for a call rather than a guess.

Fitment

Of the items here, 2 carry fitment data, all for Harley-Davidson - specifically the XL, FX, FLH and FXWG across roughly 1972 to 1986. If your application is outside that, treat the tees as generic fittings chosen by thread and port size rather than by model.

What else you need with it

A tee is one link in the hydraulic chain. Pair it with fresh brake lines and the right hardware. Upstream, look at master cylinders; at the wheel, brake calipers, brake pads and brake shoes. If you are rebuilding the whole corner, browse the parent Brakes section for the full picture.
