Piston Rings
Piston Rings: the seal that makes compression, oil control and power possible
Piston rings do three jobs at once inside every cylinder. The top compression ring seals combustion pressure above the piston so it pushes down instead of leaking past into the crankcase. The second ring backs it up and helps scrape. The oil ring wipes the cylinder wall clean so you burn fuel, not oil. When rings wear or you're building fresh, a correct ring set is what turns a bored cylinder into a sealed one, and it's why anyone doing a rebuild, a rering, or a fresh forged build buys them. Get end gap and orientation right and the engine holds compression; get them wrong and you have blow-by, oil smoke and lost power.
What ThreePiece stocks
We carry 191 piston ring products across 9 brands. In the range you'll find Mahle OE (the deepest single brand here), Wiseco, Manley Performance, CP Pistons, Supertech, JE Pistons, plus S&S Cycle, Mahle and HKS. Current in-stock prices run from $44 to about $1,229, which is the live range for what's on the shelf, not a fixed price. That spread covers single top rings up to complete multi-cylinder diesel sets like the Mahle 6.0L Powerstroke moly ring set and the Mahle 7.3L Navistar diesel set. Of the sets we list, 61 carry fitment data spanning model years 1986 to 2025, with makes including Ford, Subaru, Honda, Dodge, GMC, Chrysler, VW, Acura, Mitsubishi, Mazda, Nissan, Lexus and Navistar.
How to choose
Start with the build. For OE-style rebuilds and diesels, cast and moly sets like the Mahle listings above match factory bore and tension. For performance and forged-piston builds, file-fit rings let you dial your own end gap to the boost and heat you're running - see the Manley 6.2L HEMI file-fit steel set or the Manley 4.090in premium steel top ring set. Thinner rings, like the JE 1.2-1.5-3.0mm set, cut friction and follow the bore better on high-rpm engines, while imports and turbo fours are covered by pieces such as the HKS N18 86.5mm ring set. The core trade-off: buy rings sized to your exact bore and piston, because ring width, diameter and gap must match the pistons you're running, not just the engine family.
What else you need
Rings almost never go in alone. Match them to your pistons so bore and groove widths line up, and plan on new bearings, head gaskets and a full gasket kit for any rering or rebuild. Browse the full Engine Components section for the rest of the short block.
Fitment and ordering
Because ring size is bore-specific, confirm before you order. Call 813-535-5801 for fitment help or reach us through contact us. All orders ship with free shipping, and Affirm and Katapult financing is available on larger sets.
