Cat-Back Exhaust

Cat-Back Exhaust: the section that sets your tone and frees the flow behind the cat

A cat-back exhaust replaces everything from the catalytic converter back to the tips - the mid-pipe, muffler, resonator and tailpipe. It's the part you fit when you want a deeper, more purposeful sound and a smoother path for spent gas, without touching the emissions hardware ahead of it. Larger, mandrel-bent tubing and a freer-flowing muffler cut restriction behind the cat, and a good system usually drops weight over the factory pieces while giving you the exhaust note you actually wanted.

What ThreePiece stocks

We carry 798 cat-back systems, sampled here across 24 brands. Prices currently run from $205 to $9,880 for what's in stock - that's a live range, not a promise. The deepest benches are Invidia (135 in sample) and AWE Tuning (132), followed by CORSA Performance, Magnaflow, HKS, Borla, plus ISR Performance, Gibson, aFe, GReddy, Revel, Remark, COBB, Remus, Injen and JBA.

Coverage is broad. 663 systems carry fitment data, spanning model years from 1975 to 2026. Top vehicles include the Honda Civic, Subaru WRX, Ford Mustang, Ford F-150, Acura Integra, Chevrolet Camaro, Toyota Tundra, Subaru BRZ, Chevrolet Corvette and Toyota GR Corolla - so both tuner cars and full-size trucks are well represented.

How to choose

The split most buyers face is sound control versus simplicity. Valved systems like the AWE SwitchPath for the C8 Z06 or the CORSA valved Z06 system let you dial between quiet cruising and full volume - that flexibility carries a higher price. Fixed systems keep it simple and cost less.

Material is the other lever. Titanium builds such as the Akrapovic Evolution for the G90/G99 M5 and the Akrapovic Evolution for the AMG G63 sit at the top of the price range and often require tips to be ordered separately - check the listing. Track-focused pieces like the HKS Racing Muffler for the R35 GT-R ship with a silencer for volume control. Watch whether a system re-uses your stock tips or needs new ones - that changes the total.

What else you need

A cat-back doesn't include the converter, so if yours is tired look at Catalytic Converters. Many buyers pair a cat-back with Headers or Exhaust Pipes to open the front of the system. If you only want to change the rearmost section, Axle-Back Exhaust Systems and Mufflers do that for less, and Exhaust Tips finish the look. For the whole path in one order, see Full System Exhaust or browse the full Exhaust section.
