4Play is a newer brand that has brought a fresh style to the truck game. Taking cues from deep concave wheels often seen in the supercar world - they’re revolutionizing the truck game.

Who are 4Play Wheels?

4Play Wheels is a division of a much larger company, OE Wheels.OE Wheels makes some awesome OEM Replicas. If you’ve seen oversized factory wheels, OE was probably responsible. They make an awesome product in its own right, but that’s not why we’re here today… You’re here cause you love a bit of 4Play, don’t worry, we do too.

A few years back, the guys at OE Wheels observed that nearly everyone was making the same stuff. The truck game was getting stale. So, they called up Jordan Swerdloff, founder of ADV.1 wheels. Jordan sold ADV.1 around 2015, but before selling, he established ADV.1 as a revolutionary player in the supercar world, producing wheels unlike anything available at the time. His notoriety caught the attention of OE Wheels.

Jordan was brought on by OE Wheels to bring some of that spice from ADV.1 and put it into a new truck brand, 4Play Wheels. The goal was to design wheels that were unlike anything on the market - and boy did he and the team ever do that. Instead of a deep lip with a flat face, they opted for concave designs, something you don’t see in the truck world. These wheels have deep concavity spokes, stepped lips, and a multi-piece construction; contrasted to wheels from say: American Force, which have a deep/reverse-lip and flat face.

What makes them so good?

Why are 4Play Wheels so good? All the designs are super unique. They even went a step further by patenting these designs. You’re not gonna see a similar style - unless the rep makers get their grubby mitts on ‘em. 5 and 6-lug wheels are engineered to a 2900 lb load rating, while 8-lug wheels are made to hold 3900 lbs. They claim this is around 200 lbs heavier than the industry standard.

It was already said but bears repeating; you won’t see a concave design anywhere else. A lot of the brands we carry: Carolina Forged, American Force, and Fuel Forged, make a typical truck wheel. With these, you’ll get a flat face with a ton of dish. With 4PW, you’ll get something different. In their words, they use technology and design techniques inspired by the supercar market. You could see these on a Lambo or Ferrari and not think twice. The concavity is f**king insane. Besides super-wide-bodied stuff, you won’t see car wheels with this much indentation. Because trucks run a wide wheel with a low offset, you can get 5+ inches of concavity. This means the spokes span from the hub to the outer flange of the wheel - 5+ inches outboard… and as we know, 5” is a lot.

Another first for the 4x4 market has a stepped-lip design. You’re probably familiar with this if you come from the car scene. Brands like BBS exclusively use a stepped-lip design to run a smaller center, thus saving weight. Nobody was doing this in the truck game, so 4Play said ‘why not’, and introduced the first stepped-lip truck wheels.

They know all about finishing… wheels. The way 4Play does this is also pretty interesting and nonnormative. The industry standard is a high-polished finish, maybe the occasional brushed finish. 4Play, however, opts for solid colors like black or gunmetal, but also hand-brushed finishes. Rather than the brushed finish being coated in a high-gloss clear coat, they use a tinted clear. Again, this is what you might find on supercar wheels; tinted or double dark tint finish (common on ADV.1 & HRE). To top it off, they only use stainless steel hardware on their multi-piece wheels. Mud, snow, or whatever else won’t cause issues - your wheels will look good for years to come.

Should you buy some 4PW?

The answer is maybe. It depends on your build. If you have a lifted, leveled, or slightly lowered truck, say 2-4 inch lift or slightly lowered, then these will look great. You won’t see these on a skyjacker-type, SEMA-esque build. You know the kind with 8+ inches of lift and a bluetooth driveshaft? 4Play caters to OEM+ specs, while something like Fuel will give you those 24x14 negative offset wheels. However, the concavity adds an extra dimension. If you took a 22x12 4Play wheel and compared it to a traditional truck wheel, the spoke design makes ‘em look larger than a similar-spec’d rim.

The way 4PW finishes their wheels pairs well with a slightly modified truck. The more you lift it, the more the brushed or solid finish will get lost in the larger tire or wheel gap. But they look great with a modest wheel-to-fender gap.

You know you’re getting quality with 4PW. Each wheel receives its own individually signed runout certificate. ‘Runout’ is a measurement of concentricity. So, each wheel is hand-measured and signed to approve the roundness. To go along with this, they’re FEA tested to far beyond the target goals. 4play ensures they’re round, strong, and durable.

We gave them a maybe because the styles aren’t for everyone. In our opinion, they look awesome. But if you got a big ass truck with a big ass lift, maybe the concave design isn’t the best. Jacked up trucks, in our opinion, look better with a traditional dished rim. We went into detail about the proportionality of truck wheels, TLDR; you want height to match width. With 4PW, we think the concavity takes away from the width of the truck. And again, the lack of a lip can make them look a bit small with a big sidewall tire.

If you do have a big truck, the sizing might not be suitable. 4Play’s offerings go from 17 to 24-inch diameter and 8 to 14-inch wide, but most are on the smaller end. Generally, if you're going 24” plus, you’ll probably need to look elsewhere.

Conclusion

4Play Wheels has brought a breath of fresh air to the truck world. They’re a team of veterans backed by an extremely resourceful company. They’re a brand you can trust, plus their wheels are almost always in stock. The products look great and have some awesome engineering behind them (maybe even over-engineering). They already have a fairly extensive collection of offerings. As long as you’re not rockin a 10-inch lift, they probably have something for you.
