Clamps
Clamps: the joint that keeps boost, coolant and exhaust where they belong
A clamp is the small part that makes every hose, coupler and V-band flange hold pressure. On a turbo build the clamps are what stop a charge pipe blowing off under boost, what seal a turbine housing to a bearing housing, and what keep silicone couplers clamped down on intercooler piping. Get the diameter and the clamp style wrong and the joint leaks or lets go - which is why anyone plumbing a turbo, intercooler or exhaust system fits the right clamp for each connection rather than reusing whatever came off.
What ThreePiece stocks
There are 100 clamps in this category right now, spanning 12 brands. Vibrant is the deepest part of the range at 49 of the sample, followed by Mishimoto at 21 and Turbosmart at 10, with smaller numbers from Fragola, TiALSport, BorgWarner, Russell, Aeromotive, GReddy and a few motorcycle-focused names like S&S Cycle and TwinPower. Prices currently run from $22 to $224 for what is in stock - that is today's range, not a fixed promise.
The mix covers several clamp jobs. V-band clamps like the BorgWarner S3/S400 turbine-to-bearing-housing V-band and the Vibrant SS Quick Release V-Band Clamp handle flanged turbo and exhaust joints. Tension clamps such as the Turbosmart Turbo-Seal 2.750-3.625 and the larger Turbosmart 3.750-4.625 clamp hoses and couplers. There are heavy-duty band clamps like the Vibrant 5in HD 2.0 clamp in anodized black, and complete kits such as the BorgWarner TH Clamp Kit for EFR at the top of the price range.
How to choose
Start with the connection type. A flanged turbine housing or downpipe joint wants a V-band clamp sized to that flange; a hose or coupled pipe wants a tension or band clamp sized to the outside diameter. Match the clamp's diameter range to your pipe - the Turbosmart tension clamps above, for example, list their size band right in the name, so pick the pair that brackets your OD. Kits like the BorgWarner EFR clamp kit cost more because they bundle the matched hardware for a specific turbo, which saves guessing part by part. If you only need to replace one failed clamp, buy the single V-band or tension clamp that fits rather than a full kit.
What else you need
Clamps rarely go on alone. Pair them with the Adapters and Fittings that make up the rest of a plumbing run, and if you are into cooling work look at Radiators and the hoses they connect to. Browse the wider Engine Components section for related build parts including Gasket Kits, Head Gaskets and Fuel Pumps.
Fitment and ordering
Fitment data here is thin - only one clamp lists vehicle fitment, covering Harley-Davidson Panhead, Shovelhead and XL models across 1957 to 1987. For everything else, choose by measured diameter and clamp style rather than by vehicle. Not sure what your joint measures? Call fitment help at 813-535-5801 or reach us through contact us.
